Back in July, I saw a model in a local downtown Brampton paint shop of a model of what the Hurontario-Main LRT would look in DT South. It slightly annoyed me; it was completely out of scale.
A three car LRT train, using the nifty cardboard models that Metrolinx gives out at every opportunity, was shown to take up the entire block from Queen to Wellington!
So over the course of five days, I decided to create a scale model of the Queen to Wellington block of the Hurontario-Main LRT, using the engineering drawings as the base, and creating the buildings and other features to scale, with accuracy using a combination of photography to accurately depict building cladding, to endless hours staring at Google Earth to figure out just how many windows city hall actually has (answer: too many).
Note: This model was created using Sketchup, a 3D modelling program that fully renders in 3D the entire time. Hence, the lack of trees and benches, as each additional details slowly drains a computer's processing power.
